Trump's Trade Wars and Sanctions -- The Latest Architect of Imperial Disaster posted by Alfred W. McCoy via gus, 2018-12-03 08:29:07
As Washington’s leadership fades more quickly than anyone could have imagined and a new global order struggles to take shape, a generation of leaders has crowded onto the world stage with their own bold geopolitical visions for winning international influence. Xi Xinping has launched his trillion-dollar “Belt and Road Initiative” to dominate Eurasia and thereby the world beyond. To recover the Soviet Union’s lost influence, Vladimir Putin seeks to shatter the Western alliance with cyberwar, while threatening to dominate a nationalizing, fragmenting Eastern Europe through raw military power. The Trump White House, in turn, is wielding tariffs as weapons to try to beat recalcitrant allies back into line and cripple the planet’s rising power, China. However bizarrely different these approaches may seem, they all share one strikingly similar feature: a reliance on the concept of “geopolitics” to guide their bids for global power. (full story)

De-Recognition of Kosovo: US Tries to Stem the Tide posted by Wayne Madsen via steve, 2018-12-03 07:57:07
The international community is accustomed to the so-called “checkbook diplomacy” that has been used by China and Taiwan to pilfer each other’s diplomatic allies by exchanging diplomatic recognition for generous financial assistance packages. However, this same battle for diplomatic recognition and de-recognition is being played out between Serbia and its breakaway province of Kosovo. The United States and much of NATO has not only granted Kosovo diplomatic recognition over the objection of Serbia but has also pressured other countries to recognize Kosovo’s independence. This process has hit a major stumbling block amid charges from various parties that fake diplomatic letters and proclamations are being issued by nations that claim to de-recognize Kosovo. The worlds of international diplomacy and “fake news” have now been joined together. (full story)

The Time Thieves (This is NOT Science Fiction) posted by cyd, 2018-12-02 21:40:16
Reality is only located in the NOW, as clearly yesterday has passed and tomorrow does not exist, all nature and the cosmos exist only in the now yet the mass media constantly steals us away from the present therefore nothing is done to address and remedy the horrid present of needless wars for the profit of the few, crimes against humanity committed by same, monstrous social inequalities not seen since the slaves and Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, etc; the list is endless simply because WE are not HERE to address and cure the social ills of the NOW. Two beautiful losers Trump Praises Oz PM Morrison at G20 posted by jane, 2018-11-30 20:38:14
You’re doing a “fantastic job,” as if Trump would know what day it is! Well, praise like that from an ignorant idiot is sure to help bury Morrison’s political career. Of course Morrison obediently returned the gratuitous ‘compliment,’ (curse), after all there is the existing tradition of ALL Aussie leaders knee-walking to American leaders regardless of how insane or destructive to the world Washington’s mass murdering, resource theft wars are. Indeed, Scott should’ve chosen his words carefully, considering the international context, before his supine acquiescing gestures to the leader of the world’s leading civilian killing, leading terrorist by definition, nation, notwithstanding Trump’s known ignorance of everything political. Over the past three decades, the US government has engaged in over a dozen wars, none of which have evoked popular celebrations either before, during or after. Nor did the government succeed in securing popular support in its efforts to confront the economic crises of 2008 – 2009. (full story)

G20: Top Agenda Item, Bye-Bye Mass Murdering American Empire posted by Finian Cunningham via stacey, 2018-11-30 18:38:59

Earlier today, Trump's chief economic advisor Larry Kudlow poured cold water on expectations for an imminent resolution of the US-China trade war when he said that negotiations in the run up to this week's G-20 talks "haven't yielded any progress", and unless something changes, the "administration will move ahead with the next phase of tariffs." A Terminally Ill Species posted by gayle, 2018-11-26 22:47:29
It staggers belief how/why the global majority are NOT up in arms about runaway climate change, which effects promise a future of catastrophic proportions even the possibility of human extinction. It’s called the lemming effect, whereby short term thinking leaders lead followers over the precipice to their deaths, the masses gleefully charging to their demise without cognitive awareness of consequences.
