China Belt and Road Initiative Moves to Americas, Rattles U.S. posted by staff report AP via cyd, 2019-04-10 19:30:52 PANAMA CITY--China's expansion in Latin America of its Belt and Road initiative to build ports and other trade-related facilities is stirring alarm in Washington over Beijing's ambitions in a region that American leaders since the 19th century have seen as off-limits to other powers. Trump's Neocons See Erdogan as Their Ticket to a Region-Wide Middle East War posted by Mike Whitney via gail, 2019-04-09 23:26:14 Before proceeding it is important to realise what a neocon really is, a rabid, war-mongering pro-Israel puppet pretending to serve America first. See this excellent article on crypto-'Jews' in Washington. (full story) prose / international
Decriminalizing the [Lost] War on Drugs? posted by Alfred W. McCoy via reg, 2019-04-09 22:11:45 You would think the USA learned from its bitter alcohol prohibition FAILURE which allowed organised crime to become the behemoths they are today, however, as the world knows America is a hard learner, if it learns at all. The 'war' on drugs is an abysmal failure, no doubt, but it allows for certain government agencies to make large amounts of instant unrecorded cash, as well as making drug lords multi-millionaires and billionaires -- now note that it is no coincidence that the largest world heroin supply moved with the American military from Indo-China to Afghanistan, as once tempted by easy money that habit is hard to break, particularly for the CIA, which runs its own covert operations not sanctioned or funded by Washington, as well as those sanctioned by government from which it gains funds. Climate Crisis -- Arctic Indicators Spell Doom posted by Jon Queally via stella, 2019-04-08 23:57:45 A new research paper by American and European climate scientists focused on Arctic warming published Monday reveals that the "smoking gun" when it comes to changes in the world's northern polar region is rapidly warming air temperatures that are having—and will continue to have—massive and negative impacts across the globe. ALIENATION: The SOCIAL IMPLOSION of America posted by Michael Snyder via jane, 2019-04-08 21:32:58 The American Dream is dead and buried and it is easy to see why. The manic pursuit of profit -- worse than a heroin addiction -- by elite bankers and mega-corporations have destroyed the traditional social fabric and the viability of the nation. Take for example defence. Profit seeking weapons manufacturers build multi-billion dollar aircraft carriers simply because they make huge profits therefrom, while Russia and China, not ruled by vested interests, build hyper-sonic anti-aircraft carrier missiles which easily vaporise any super carrier for a tiny fraction of the cost. Aircraft carriers are actually redundant today, so why are they built? So all the corporations involved in their manufacture are able to turn massive profits, just look at the defence budget, which is bleeding the country dry and making ocean going sitting ducks. The same applies to the aircraft industry -- the F-35 strike 'lemon' is the obvious example. (full story) prose / international

Enter Moreno, Goodbye Assange posted by cyd, 2019-04-05 23:20:35 I recall an US official saying in an interview, to paraphrase, 'what's the point of Assange's self-incarceration if he has access to the internet, he lives online' – indeed, he does. So Lenin Moreno, now fully captured by Washington and given huge monetary incentives, is complying with US wishes to have Assange expelled from his sanctuary in the London Ecuadorian Embassy. America and the Losing Syndrome posted by gerry, 2019-04-04 01:25:01 Americans love to ‘win’ in fact they are so addicted to winning that when confronted with the reality of numerous losses, they withdraw into denial. No, they say, we really did win that one and that one, of course relying on the fictitious media which never accepts a loss. Indeed culture is a self-sustaining system based on lies or whatever. Chinese Military in Venezuela posted by M. K. Bhadrakumar via jess, 2019-04-03 23:20:35 The reported arrival of Chinese military personnel in Venezuela last weekend is undoubtedly a major event in world politics. Unlike Russia, which has a history of force projection abroad, this is an extremely rare Chinese move. Although vital Chinese interests are at stake in the war against terrorist groups in Afghanistan and Syria, China refrained from publicising any such deployment. (full story) prose / international
When the Deep State Took Hold of America posted by james, 2019-04-02 23:03:24 This period was marked by a string of political assassinations starting with JFK and his brother, it included Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and many other black leaders, it also included many politically inclined pop stars of the time, such as Hendrix and Joplin ending with John Lennon and Bob Marley some time later. Never has this many political assassinations been recorded in such a short period in American history, YET no one has questioned WHY or how. This relatively free period of the 60‘s and 70‘s was also the period the Deep State stole the American (democratic) Republic and continues to maintain ownership to this day -- coincidence, not likely! Everything political has a beginning and end and it’s time we ended the nefarious rule of the mass murdering, treasonous, American Deep State. (full story) prose / international
Golan Heights, Kosovo and Crimea: A Case Study in Hypocrisy and Double Standards posted by James O'Neill via claire, 2019-03-31 00:55:04 The recent announcement by United States President Donald Trump that the US will recognise Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights draws attention yet again to the double standards applied by NATO and its satraps including Australia to the issues of territorial integrity, the right to self-determination, and international law. Three cases illustrate the duplicity and double standards of the Western nations. They may be reviewed chronologically. (full story) prose / international
The American Dream World -- the US Continues to IMAGINE it is Able to Dictate Policy to the World posted by suzie, 2019-03-31 00:30:24 As a young student studying ancient/modern history I recall studying the fall of the Roman (military) Empire. Of course, full of young projections I simply couldn’t understand why obvious solutions were not followed to restore Rome’s might prior to its implosion and subsequent fall as a powerful empire; solutions were obvious to me and confirmed by the Eastern Emperor Constantine, who cleverly implemented something learned from the Jews, and that is that an Empire based on ideology/theology was the most cost efficient and supremely successful form of ruling large numbers of people and huge geographic empires, regardless of initial cultural differences.
