Relating to, "Political Correctness Clashes with Conservative Religious Belief"

international / prose / post

Please forgive my comment in the publishing section but I couldn't resist as the issue of 'political correctness' is affecting Australian and other western societies to an alarming degree.

Without knowing the outcome of Israel Folau’s battle over his bible quotations, I would like to voice my fears that Australia may have entered a dark era, socially and politically, as the main article indirectly highlights. It seems to be a time in which our basic moral compass, which has been the basis for our laws and guiding morality, is being flouted and under siege by unrepresentative minority groups.

Particularly our once proud and inalienable right to freedom of speech which it would appear is no longer a fundamental part of our life, as it has been replaced by some poorly drafted laws and 'political correctness' which views are being used by minorities to intimidate and bully others in our once free society.

Clearly, this is not how our democratic society was designed to function. The majority should guide in democracies, pure and simple, but what we see is that overly vocal minorities, supported by ill-defined new laws, now affect our entire culture?

Who are these people and what do they really stand for that enhances, not compromises, our great nation? Is their behavior entirely dominated by their odd sexuality? Is this a Gay Mafia at work? Outspoken religious people have already lost their business, jobs and rights under these new politically correct laws.

Israel Folau's quotes come straight from the Bible which has been the main, moral and legal guide for centuries in the western world, not just Australia. Have we really become so silly as to jettison this legacy and defer to somewhat odd minority groups so easily?

Many have pointed out that Folau's quote included others such as “drunks, adulterers, liars, fornicators, etc (there is a long list of politicians and public figures that are included in these denunciations). However, those included in this list don’t go after their accusers to have them fired and their livelihoods taken away, as is happening with Folau. For example, scandalous and appalling adulterer, former politician Barnaby Joyce, doesn’t call for the closure of newspapers or TV stations because his sexual straying was caught out and publicised and his career destroyed.

These guilty parties realise and accept that their behaviour is wrong and have been chastened by public outrage and indignation over their hypocritical behaviour. This is a social reflection of the moral guidance given by the scriptures. These people don’t have an adulterer's, fornicator's and homosexual's pride parade that celebrates their deviance from the overwhelming majority of people.

Why then should Israel Folau be victimized for including homosexuals in his list of what he believes to be sinners, he is entitled to voice his opinion as we all are? But what has happened? Political correctness gone mad; it is deviant minorities bullying their way into this issue through their lobbying and social networks.

Why is it that Qantas is one of the main instigators calling for the head of Folau? Surely it's because Alan Joyce MD of Qantas, a self-proclaimed intolerant homosexual, is asserting his influence to remove a god fearing, religious man from his hard-earned place in sport. Is this what Australia has become?

I am not at all religious in the classic sense but I was involved in highly competitive sports in my youth and I would conclude that the melee surrounding Folau must surely be the work of institutionalised perversity, bias and flagrant double standards.

Let's hope Australian society does not bend to the will of unrepresentative, deviant minorities -- it's now in the hands of our less than honest politicians and what they decide will no doubt affect the outcome of numerous future elections.

Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.
