Washington Smirks at the Prospect of Chinese and Russian Support for Venezuela posted by gus, 2019-02-08 19:57:57 Washington neocons once laughed openly at the prospect of Russia interfering with its wars of oil domination falsely labelled the ‘war on terror,’ the exact comment was, “what could Russia do?” [to interfere.] Well, at that time Washington was correct. Corporate Plutocracy Must be Eliminated if Global Freedom is the Goal posted by Eric Zuesse via claire, 2019-02-08 18:12:35 On Monday, February 5th, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced that the 14 countries of the Lima Group — who had actually formed themselves under her direction into this new group on 8 August 2017 in order to overthrow and replace Venezuela’s current President Nicholas Maduro — have now been joined (though she didn’t say to what extent) by the EU, and by 8 other individual countries. She stated: (full story) prose / international
The Critical Time Factor in All Coups posted by cyd, 2019-02-07 20:31:13 A successful coup d'état once initiated is critically time dependent, if it fails to achieve its objective in 24 hours, one week at the absolute outside, then it is likely to fail. History is replete with successful fast snatches of power and drawn out failures in this respect. External or internal forces that foment coups are well aware of the critical time factor, a successful coup is a SHOCK tactic and shock must by nature be hard and fast. So in view of historical success and failures the already drawn out coup attempt in Venezuela is headed for failure, so Washington’s plan B, which the mass media ignores in its full implications, has been queued. Venezuela and Possible US Military intervention -- A Total No-Win Situation posted by darcy, 2019-02-06 20:41:38 It takes resurrected neocon psychopaths like John Bolton to threaten war in Venezuela and that after withdrawing from two major failed wars in Syria and Afghanistan. However, clearly Washington foreign policy neocons have not thought it through as the vast majority of Venezuelans (85%) passionately refuse and would fight against any foreign intervention, particularly from blood-drenched, interfering American hands. That 'minor' factor is ignored (by the western mass media) though it portends a HUGE RESISTANCE, which implications Bolton and his neocon ilk have not properly considered, notwithstanding Chinese and Russian support for the elected sitting president, Maduro. Why Nothing Changes posted by jane, 2019-02-05 20:17:06 All western governments are owned by mega-wealthy, tax avoiding, corporate interests pure and simple. Politicians are puppets and those that have a semblance of independent thought and attempt to represent the people are soon eliminated leaving a group of non-representative elite-serving sycophants in government whose only job is to do the bidding of the corporate-banker elites that own the western world. US Threats of War for Oil against Venezuela posted by Eric London via stella, 2019-02-05 18:57:02 John Bolton, who helped author the playbook that was used to launch the 2003 invasion of Iraq, issued a blunt threat Friday that the US would kill or jail and torture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro if he did not resign. Comparing Maduro to Nicolae Ceaușescu and Benito Mussolini—both of whom were killed—Bolton told right-wing radio host Hugh Hewitt: “The sooner he takes advantage of that [i.e., resignation], the sooner he’s likely to have a nice quiet retirement on a pretty beach rather than being in some other beach area like Guantanamo.” (full story) prose / international
Goodbye to the Dollar posted by Chris Hedges via james, 2019-02-04 18:42:10 The inept and corrupt presidency of Donald Trump has unwittingly triggered the fatal blow to the American empire—the abandonment of the dollar as the world’s principal reserve currency. Nations around the globe, especially in Europe, have lost confidence in the United States to act rationally, much less lead, in issues of international finance, trade, diplomacy and war. These nations are quietly dismantling the seven-decade-old alliance with the United States and building alternative systems of bilateral trade. (full story) prose / international
The Right Stuff and the Lack Thereof posted by luke, 2019-02-03 20:19:46 The right stuff, how else did a bunch of rag-tag Taliban fighters in Afghanistan defeat the world’s most powerful military nation? They were/are outgunned, facing modern technological warfare against drones, missiles, modern fighter jets, bunker bombs etc, YET they prevailed and clearly it wasn’t the result of watching propaganda and fictions on TV. Afghanistan has once again proven it is the graveyard of empires. (full story) prose / international
The LAW is a BAD Joke, not an Ass posted by jed, 2019-02-02 23:35:51 We live in an era of lawlessness, we need only consider that not one American has ever been charged before the ICC for war and other crimes against HUMANITY. Henry Kissinger was proud of the fact that he implemented indiscriminate “carpet bombing” during the Indo-Chinese war -- millions of innocent peasants were killed as a result. America is proud that it illegally attacked and invaded Iraq based on a raft of exposed LIES, though millions of innocent civilians were killed in the grab for Iraq’s oil and prior to that illegal invasion millions were killed by US sanctions on Iraq which forbade the import of medical supplies which resulted in over 500,000 child deaths, which the then Sec. of State, when questioned in the media, considered those deaths, “worth it.” So what is an American politician's life worth today, Madam Albright? Sanctions of Mass Destruction: America’s [Failing] War on Venezuela posted by Garikai Chengu via jane, 2019-02-02 22:16:38 American economic sanctions have been the leading crime against humanity since World War Two. America’s economic sanctions have killed more innocent people than all of the nuclear, biological and chemical weapons ever used in the history of mankind. (full story) prose / international
Washington Neocons are Subverting U.S. Dollar Hegemony posted by Michael Hudson via gayle, 2019-02-02 21:14:46 The extreme right and extreme left of politics shake hands together in totalitarian autocracy. This (ideological impositionist) outcome led to the economic collapse of the USSR and is now leading to the collapse of the USA via the only factor holding up America's capability -- the petro-dollar as reserve world currency. It is not without ample irony that extreme right wing factions in Washington (neocons) have not only taken over Trump's foreign policy but are, in their Blind, desperate attempts to preserve America's former status, actually shooting themselves in the head. Leading macro economist Prof. Michael Hudson spells out this rapid (internal) decline and the forces driving it below:
[For any individual, nation/state or otherwise, to allow itself to depend on only one survival factor becomes the ultimate in stupidity and folly, but this is the situation for tattered and fragile US power. And so, targeting the dollar, intentionally or unintentionally, from within or without, brings down the entire house of cards. The paper dollar is therefore the Achilles heel of American imperialism, and we all know what happened to Achilles!] (full story) prose / international
Profit -- Naturalised Exploitation posted by lynx, 2019-02-01 19:23:49 The difference between the cost of production and the revenue gained from selling the produced item is profit; sounds ‘natural’ enough as presented by economists and capitalists, BUT if fair wages are paid to workers and consumers are not overcharged for produced items then profit would not exist, hence profit must be EXPLOITATION -- its real meaning. US Superpower Roundly DEFEATED by Rag-Tag Taliban Fighters in Afghanistan posted by Finian Cunningham via gus, 2019-01-31 21:06:58 The title is the truth, not that American defeat would be portrayed that way in the lying American mass media. Indeed, determined nationals would always defeat a foreign invader as has happened throughout history but who learns? No-one it would seem so America is pulling out of its longest LOST war, though the writing was on the wall from the start, talk about thick and the PROFITS of contractors and arms manufacturers. And therein lies the tale of defeat. Afghans were/are fighting for their FREEDOM, a real cause, Americans were fighting for corporate profits -- the least passionate reason to fight. And so it was INEVITABLE, though America is attempting to save face as I write, but the truth as always stands immutable, D-E-F-E-A-T! (full story) prose / international

Future World posted by Chris Hedges via pru, 2019-01-30 19:18:33 The massive social failures we witness today are the direct result of OUR collective failures. First, the failure to rein in the criminals that set the course for permanent illegal wars beginning with Yugoslavia/Iraq; then the failure to prosecute and jail those responsible for the 2008 global economic collapse from which we are yet to recover -- temporary life support equates with QE, a (temporary) measure which has become permanent, though it must inevitably collapse, as the global economy CANNOT be sustained on paper money printed from 'air' not based on production.
