The world has learned over the past three decades that America is divorced from reality due mainly to the fact that its propaganda apparatus is second to none. Why Everything Is Fucked posted by Caitlin Johnstone via claire, 2019-12-23 19:42:02
We all emerged from the womb an itty bitty helpless information sponge into a world full of mentally ill giants who couldn’t wait to fill our tiny skulls with all of their inner demons. And now everything, understandably, is fucked. (full story)

Police State future 2020 - Social Breakdown USA posted by Rainer Shea via joyce, 2019-12-21 20:07:56
The United States, like the other parts of the world that have been ravaged by rampant economic inequality and corporate despotism, is headed for a social breakdown. This gets more apparent every time wealth disparity is shown to be at a decades-high level, every time the military budget is expanded billions of dollars to fight endless wars, every time the country's militarized police shoots an innocent person. Ten or twenty years from now, our society's current form will have taken on an extreme version of itself: no real freedoms, basically no semblance of democracy, and conditions for the majority of people that are in or approaching squalor. The Propaganda Multiplier Effect posted by SPR via sal, 2019-12-21 18:50:02
It is one of the most important aspects of our media system, and yet hardly known to the public: most of the international news coverage in Western media is provided by only three global news agencies based in New York, London and Paris.

The key role played by these agencies means Western media often report on the same topics, even using the same wording. In addition, governments, military and intelligence services use these global news agencies as multipliers to spread their messages around the world. (full story)

Irrelevant REAL NEWS -- World's Richest Country’s Empty Plates posted by Larry Romanoff via stella, 2019-12-19 19:01:28
Trump's impeachment is NOT news that matters, the real story is YOUR rapidly declining quality of life which has plummeted to levels never seen before and I include the great depression, which only persisted for a decade. In contrast today average Americans have seen their quality of life and real incomes go through the proverbial floor to below subsistence levels over the past three decades. So would you now remain media nose-ringed and fixed on the fate of a puppet president that has only served the interests of mega-rich oligarchs and plutocrats that have ensured that puppet Trump remained in office for four years serving their interests, which interests include maintaining public focus on totally irrelevant sensational issues so attention is never on the thieves and proven criminals (Iraq war) in high office and other places of financial power. Can Filthy Rich Elites Sink Democracy in Britain and the U.S.? -- Sure Can! posted by Juan Cole via jess, 2019-12-14 19:48:51
The constant attacks on freedom, liberty and independent thinking (independent choice) by our elite owned information systems plus new levels of wealth concentration has resulted in the complete subversion of democracy. The degree of wealth inequality both in the US and the UK is now virtually unprecedented, as is media concentration/consolidation. That is, fewer and much wealthier people own more news and other information systems today than ever before, and they use it against the public interest and to advance THEIR agendas/interests. Landslide Victory for Conservatives in UK posted by james, 2019-12-13 21:04:10

History of the Federal Reserve -- Eliminating the Gold Standard posted by Ellen Brown via kate, 2019-12-13 18:12:58
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan called Paul Volcker “the most effective chairman in the history of the Federal Reserve.” But while Volcker, who passed away Dec. 8 at age 92, probably did have the greatest historical impact of any Fed chairman, his legacy is, at best, controversial. Useless Oz PM Scott Morrison, 'what day is it? Disconnected Pentecostal dribbler Oz PM Morrison Forced to Speak on Bushfire Emergency posted by reg, 2019-12-11 21:19:36
FINALLY speaking to the media, insular PM Morrison says he “understands” bushfire emergency! Well, you dipstick runner from your primary responsibility to the nation and its people, over five million Sydneysiders, after weeks of inhaling toxic smoke and dangerous 2.5 particles, which have long term deleterious effects on health, also 'understand' the bushfire emergency but still NOT a WORD on policies for future mitigation, reduction and prevention from a clearly USELESS PM that CLEARLY AVOIDED the issue by attempting to shift focus to international criticism of his ABYSMAL performance in this crisis, after all it's all about him, NOT the nation and suffering population affected for weeks by poisonous air pollution. Cultural Reproduction and Freedom posted by claire, 2019-12-10 23:26:42
It is self-defeating to write reformative and/or subversive revolutionary material about any existing culture. All the great philosophical, religious and political treatises that we imagine were/are new are merely reproductions of culture as process. WHY/how? Simply due to the fact that culture resides internally as 'mind' – distinct from consciousness – and externally as a social phenomena, though both productions are inextricably bound in an extremely tight symbiotic relationship by LANGUAGE. The Image NATO likes to Portray Senile, Demented and Incontinent: NATO at 70 posted by Martin Sieff via reg, 2019-12-08 21:49:23
“Old Age,” the great French President Charles De Gaulle famously said, “is a shipwreck.” We should certainly feel that way about the 70th birthday celebrations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – the most venerable security alliance and organization in the world.

The London Summit made it clear to the whole world: NATO at 70 has become a global joke. (full story)
